Standard Fire and Special Perils Policy

If you wish to buy a fire insurance policy, the below following is the criteria along with the sum insured at the single location should exceed more than 50 cr:

• Any person/organisation/institution/firm that may endure or need to ensure his/her business from an unforeseen misfortune in case of a fire.

• Anyone who possesses a building, furniture, household articles and so on.

• Retailers or shopkeepers, godown keepers.

• Banks, financial, education, research institutes, and so on.

• Service suppliers including hotel owners, medical clinics, lodging, clinics and so on.

• Manufacturing and industrial firms, transporters.

Fire insurance is a legal contract between an insurance company and the policyholder which guarantees that any loss or damages caused to the policyholder’s property in a fire will be paid by the insurance company. Fire insurance provides coverage against incidents of accidental fire, lightning, explosion, etc

The policy tenure is up-to 12 months .

Usually, general fire insurance doesn’t cover these items, unless discussed with the insurer while buying the policy. However, on special request and subject to valuation, these items can be covered under a policy

Following are the additional inbuilt cover

1. Architects, Surveyors and Consulting Engineers' Fees up to 3 % of the claim amount.

2. Expenses incurred for removal of debris to clear the site up to 1 % of the claim amount.

3. Machinery and equipment temporarily removed for repairs, cleaning, renovation or other similar purposes for a period of 60 days

We do not cover losses and expenses caused by or arising from events, stated below

1. This Policy does not cover (not applicable to policies covering dwellings)

   • The first 5% of each and every claim subject to a minimum of Rs.10,000 in respect of each and every loss arising out of “Act of God perils” such as Lightning, STFI, Subsidence, Landslide and Rock slide covered under the policy

   • The first Rs.10,000 for each and every loss arising out of other perils in respect of which the Insured is indemnified by this policy. The Excess shall apply per event per insured

2. Loss, destruction or damage caused by war, invasion, act of foreign enemy hostilities or war like operations (whether war be declared or not)

3. Loss, destruction or damage to bullion or unset precious stones, any curios or works of art for an amount exceeding Rs. 10000/-, goods held in trust or on commission, manuscripts, plans, drawings, securities, obligations or documents of any kind, stamps, coins or paper money, cheques, books of accounts or other business books, computer systems records, explosives unless otherwise expressly stated in the policy

4. Loss, destruction or damage to the stocks in Cold Storage premises caused by change of temperature.

5. Loss by theft during or after the occurrence of any insured peril except as provided under Riot, Strike, Malicious Damage cover

6. Any Loss or damage occasioned by or through or in consequence directly or indirectly due to earthquake, volcanic eruption or other convulsions of nature

7. Loss or damage by spoilage resulting from the retardation or interruption or cessation of any process or operation caused by operation of any of the perils covered
